Everybody Has a Story to Tell and It’s Not the One They’re Writing

aw_godstory

I used to think God wanted me to write a great story with my life, but I’m learning He actually wants me to be a part of His.

Nobody plans to fail. No one counts on having their dreams broken, hopes dashed, or loved ones lost. In our ideal picture of life, everything always goes well. And why not?

We expect great things in life: close friends, happy marriages, connected families, fulfilling jobs, effective ministries. God says he has great plans for us of prosperity and good fortune. Why shouldn’t we aim for greatness?

What we don’t expect is God ruining our story.

We Have a Courtship Dilemma

aw_courtship_dilemma

As I listen to other people in my generation I hear an increasing frustration with our courtship model. This seems to be true regardless of background. Is courtship as we know it today the way it should be?

Here’s how I’m approaching this post: I’m going to offer my perspective and then I want to hear yours. I love discussions, so let’s have one. I want to hear from other married people, but I also want to hear from singles. I want to hear your frustrations and desires.

Our Calling Is Born from Our Story

The story that’s being written in our lives, is the platform God will likely use for us to share Him with others.

You see, our story is where God becomes relevant to our lives. Our story is made of the events that happen in our life which are out of our control. We didn’t plan them, but they happened anyway. It’s those things we often wish weren’t a part of our lives. The experiences that feel too vulnerable to share. God is using them to write a message of His glory for others to hear.
