Through these deep-dive essays, I seek to answer questions or wrestle (in a raw sort of way) with current, relevant issues Christians face today. In this particular essay, I’d like to look more in-depth at homosexuality.
You see, the Mennonite church (my background) has two extremes when it comes to homosexuality. Either we unabashedly accept homosexuality as a respectable and godly form of sexuality, or we don’t address it at all. Affirming camps of same-sex marriage include Mennonite Church USA which openly ordains people in same-sex marriages. Non-affirming camps, especially those within the Conservative Mennonite Church, either address this issue with complete repulsion, or simply avoid it altogether.
The problem with affirming same-sex marriage is identifying whether or not such a position is truly biblical.
The problem with non-affirming same-sex marriage is whether or not we compassionately and respectably care for people who face same-sex attraction.
You see, I am coming to realize more people than I ever imagined wrestle with same-sex feelings.
Only, they’re struggling silently because if they ever told anyone, if they ever revealed their attraction to people of their own gender, people would never have anything to do with them again.
